Job Summary:
The Golf Course Laborer performs routine manual work accomplishing the upkeep and maintenance of the golf course and other areas of campus as needed. This includes, but is not limited to, the seeding, fertilizing, watering, mowing. spraying, landscaping, maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, and minor mower maintenance. This individual also helps to monitor and inspect work to ensure conformance to standards. Work also includes general cleanup, aerating, lifting of heavy objects and working in adverse weather conditions. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Golf Course Superintendent.

Job Duties:

Perform routine manual work in the upkeep and maintenance of the golf course, including, but not limited to: mowing, seeding, fertilizing, spraying, tree trimming, landscaping, irrigation, and general laborer duties including but not limited to, clean up and moving materials. (80%)

Apply fertilizers, insecticides and fungicides or other materials in calculated amounts and under proper weather conditions and assists in the calibration of application equipment. Assist in keeping an updated inventory of pesticides, fertilizers, seed, etc. to assure sufficient amount is on hand for daily operations. Assist the Golf Course Landscaper and Golf Course Superintendent in coordinating the fertilizer and pesticide programs. (10%)

Utilize hand tools and ground turf machines, such as mowers, aerators, sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, tractors, front-end loaders and trucks.

Troubleshoot and maintain the golf course irrigation system. (10%)

Attend periodic refresher training for pesticide license, irrigation system maintenance and operation, and mower grinding.

Adhere to OSHA standards, employ safe practices, and follow safety policies and procedures. Use PPE in a safe manner, set examples for others, notify supervisor of potential hazards, and demonstrate good housekeeping habits.

Support and promote the University's sustainability efforts.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in laboring work, including demonstrated use of tools and turf equipment.

Knowledge of or willingness to learn how to use hand tools and ground turf machines, such as mowers, aerators, sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, tractors, front end loaders, and trucks.

A valid driver's license and a safe driving record for the past three years.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform basic math calculations.

Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

Must communicate and work effectively with coworkers, students and other staff members.

Demonstrated ability to perform work in a safe and appropriate manner

Demonstrated commitment to social (diversity and inclusiveness), economic, and environmental sustainability.

Other Requirements:

Ability to work required hours to include evening, weekend, and overtime hours to support the Golf Club's 7 day per week operation during playing season.

Post-offer background screenings including criminal history, driving history check and drug screening will be conducted.

Preferred Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

A commercial pesticide license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment

Physical Demands:

Bending, kneeling, stooping, pushes, pulling, reaching above and below shoulders, lifting

Must be able to move, lift and carry up to 75 pounds unassisted

Daily exposure to dust, dirt, adverse weather conditions, including extreme temperature changes.

Use of mechanical and power equipment.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
