The Contemplative Sciences Center (CSC) at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Facility Assistant Manager. The position is responsible for managing and coordinating property and facility management services, overseeing an operations and maintenance (O&M) budget, and the periodic maintenance process for the brand-new Contemplative Commons. The position is responsible for managing UVA FP&C interactions (i.e., work orders, PM, and O&M work), tradespeople, project managers, consultants, and contract vendors. This position also coordinates closely with CSC's Programs and Events Teams for activities, programs, and events internal and external to the Center .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Commons Director to assist with scheduling, event planning, and event support; preventative, routine, and deferred maintenance; risk management and safety audits for the Contemplative Commons.
  • Be a presence in the Contemplative Commons; work in the building, become deeply familiar with the building and its environment, remain curious about activities, events, and programs hosted in the building, attending when possible.
  • Foster a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance of policies and procedures. Implement, assess, and continually improve departmental policies and procedures to enhance facility user experiences.
  • Establish, maintain , and develop professional relationships between service providers, such as Facilities Management employees and vendors on contract, and those who utilize the facility.
  • Execute some budget responsibilities regarding assigned tasks, including participating in fiscal transparency and accountability.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual reports on budget, goals, and objectives .
  • Anticipate requirements and deadlines for recurring activities, programs, and events to ensure all tasks are completed promptly.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Degree or GED.
  • Experience: One year of experience with a Bachelor's degree. Five years of experience without a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, administration, facilities management, construction management, architecture, hospitality, or related field.
  • Minimum of four years of work experience in corporate or higher education environment specializing in administration, facilities management, or support services.
  • Desired Experience: Effective and professional verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, s trong problem-solving and decision-making skills, and excellent project management and budgeting skills.
Physical Demands: This position will require frequent movement, standing, and climbing stairs to access the facility to assess conditions and prepare spaces for activities, programs, and events. This position i s a restricted position a nd is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Rang e: $ 70,000-$75, 000 co mmensu rate with education and experience.
