Job Description:

The Switchgear Commissioning Technician will be responsible for the efficient and effective commissioning of switchgear units, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The technician will perform a wide range of tasks including but not limited to site orientation, critical spare parts list creation, equipment assessment, documentation, and providing expert onsite assistance. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Create recommended critical spare parts list.
  2. Conduct site orientation to familiarize oneself with project requirements and safety protocols.
  3. Properly track hours spent on warranty-related work, ensuring accurate reporting.
  4. Perform general assessment of equipment both on-site and in warehouses.
  5. Conduct tug tests, order necessary parts, and resolve issues promptly.
  6. Perform dry (non-energized) checks on all control wiring for all IMVG units.
  7. Proactively address issues related to missing or damaged hardware, components, parts, or cosmetic defects.
  8. Load all Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) documentation for IMVG units into CX Alloy.
  9. Provide training on CX Alloy, generate checklist templates, and assist with data import.
  10. Participate in Site Logistics meetings to coordinate activities effectively.
  11. Conduct daily assessment of equipment and resolve any issues promptly.
  12. Perform continuity checks and maintain detailed documentation.
  13. Conduct pre-startup checks and documentation.
  14. Perform Level 3 Vendor startup checks and document findings in CX Alloy.
  15. Provide expert onsite assistance and support during Level 4 commissioning, offering support to Commissioning Agents (CxA) and Construction Managers (CM).
  16. Deliver owner equipment training support.
  17. Offer expert onsite assistance and support during Level 5 and Initial System Testing (IST), providing support to CxA and CM.
  18. Maintain a site-specific CX issues tracking program with necessary checklists, notes, and pictures.
  19. Submit Daily Work Reports to management.
  20. Document equipment nameplate data on test reports and verify compliance with site drawings.
  21. Verify proper grounding, installation, and sealing of enclosures for outdoor applications.
  22. Inspect enclosure integrity, control wiring, interlock systems, and metering devices for proper functionality.
  23. Verify relay programming according to coordination study provided by the Engineer of Record (EOR).
  24. Ensure switches are in the correct position during energization, in accordance with site requirements.
  25. Verify proper functioning of voltage present indicators and remote metering systems.
  26. Repair or replace defective or damaged components to ensure equipment readiness for commissioning.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (preferred).
  • Relevant certification or training in switchgear commissioning.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical systems commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using commissioning software and tools.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
