Job Description:


Elsie is looking to hire a Research Associate I/II in chemistry to join its research team in San Diego, California. This is an ideal position for researcher with a background in biochemistry or chemistry and early drug development who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross disciplinary biotechnology environment. This candidate will have a hands-on-role and will contribute to all phases of discovery research to support the development of optimized nucleic acid therapies. Our ideal candidate will bring a wide breadth of experience from solid phase synthesis (SPOS) to experimentation with synthesized biopolymers. In this role, you will work closely with other teams to design and optimize sequence and chemistry of next generation of oligonucleotide therapeutics. Experience in oligonucleotide chemistry and RNAi biology is a plus.


Responsibilities:


  • Perform laboratory experiments to support the Elsie Chemistry team, including but not limited to post-synthetic processing, purification and analysis of oligonucleotides.
  • Manage and maintain equipment, reagents and dedicated laboratory environment needed to carry out experiments.
  • Evaluate and optimize existing oligonucleotide processing techniques and workflows.
  • Maintain updated and well-organized lab notebook.
  • Visualize, summarize, and present experimental results to team members and direct supervisor, contribute to scientific posters/publications and patents.


Qualifications and experience:


  • BS/MS degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related discipline with 1+ years of hands-on experience with oligonucleotides. Knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry and oligonucleotide chemistry.
  • Laboratory techniques including but not limited to SPOS, conjugation, purification, and handling of oligonucleotides.
  • Hands on experience with MerMade-192X and/or MerMade-12 synthesizers is preferred
  • Experience with LC/MS for analyzing oligonucleotides, with ability to interpret MS and identify impurities is desired.
  • Competent in the use of modern laboratory data management systems and software including electronic lab notebooks, ChemDraw, NMR/HPLC data processing, etc.
  • Critical data analysis, attention to detail, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and positive, can do and will do attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organization.
  • High degree of ownership and accountability.
