JOB OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to assist with various areas of the Parks Department to include, but not limited to support of Park Ranger activities including: park programs and special events, serve as park ambassadors to enhance the park visitor experience, provide information, lock/secure park facilities, provide security and enforce park rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Coordinates and assists with interpretive recreation programs and special events as needed.

* Patrols park sites on foot, bike, or vehicle to enforce park rules and regulations and promote positive public relations.

* Prepare reports on enforcement activities, recommend policies and procedures, maintain vehicles and equipment.

* Provides information and on-site support with emphasis on strong communication and customer service skills.

* Ability to promote programs offered by the Department of Parks & Recreation and interact with the public including all age groups.

* Working conditions outdoors may require withstanding varying weather conditions and must be able to perform light duty physical tasks.

* Number of hours will vary based on employee's availability and the Department's scheduling requirements.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

* College experience or Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation, Natural Resources, Wild Life Management, Forestry, Biology, Geology, Park Management, Education, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

* A valid motor vehicle operator's license and good driving record is required.

* First Aid/CPR certification is required within 6 months of hiring.

* Requires flexibility of schedule to include shift work, holidays and weekends.

This is a part-time, as needed position that may vary in hours and length of service, working approximately 24 hours per week. Working times will be primarily nights, weekends, and holidays.
