Job Title Security Officer (Per-Diem) Campus Bangor Posting Number 201100647 Full or Part Time On-Call Position Type Staff Position End Date (if temporary) Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Benefits Eligible No Job Description Summary Campus Security Officers are responsible for the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff and visitors to Husson University. Security Officers also maintain a safe environment and minimize potential for loss or damage on all property controlled by Husson University. Security Officers maintain the security of our Campus by patrolling areas on foot and in University vehicles and by enforcing Husson University rules and regulations, Community Conduct Code and state statutes.

Security Officers are required to recognize potential safety concerns and to take measures to mitigate these concerns. Security Officers respond to disturbances and mitigates disruptive conduct and respond to emergency situations as needed. Security Officers also coordinate with all local, county and state agencies as necessary to maintain the safety of the Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities Must be available to cover shifts due to absences, inclement weather situations, or other unforeseen circumstances

Attend and/or complete all departmental and University training requirements

Maintain a complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies & procedures

Perform lead Security Officer duties in the absence of a supervisor

Maintain a complete awareness of Husson University Campus property, life safety systems and emergency plans including the proper use of fire extinguishers

Maintain the confidentiality of all departmental and University information and paperwork

Be well groomed and wear the proper issued uniform

Appropriately maintain all issued duty equipment

Use a two-way radio and utilize proper radio protocol to maintain FCC & NIMS compliance

Provide prompt, courteous service to students, staff and visitors

Must have appropriate report writing skills, as well as the ability to utilize electronic reporting systems.

Patrol University property to prevent and detect signs of intrusion, theft and life safety concerns

Provides safety and traffic control during Campus events

Ensure all necessary doors and buildings are properly secured

Ensure resolution of any safety concerns noted during your shift

Monitor and regulate as necessary building systems including building boilers as well as refrigerator and freezer units

Monitor CCTV and review as necessary for security and investigations

Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions and provide information

Enforce University rules & regulations and notify violators of infractions including issuance of parking tickets

Escort student, staff and visitors to various locations on Campus and provide protection as necessary

Investigate suspicious activity, security issues and criminal incidents. Gather and process necessary evidence and properly document in verbal and written reports

Respond to accidents and medical emergencies and provide First Aid and CPR

Respond to disturbances and emergencies on University property

Write duty log reports of daily activities

Coordinate emergency situations until a supervisor arrives on scene

Contact the Executive Director of Security as needed for emergency situations

Contact local police and fire departments as necessary and act as a liaison between these agencies and the University as needed

Escort and remove undesirable persons from Campus

Apprehend suspects and use departmentally approved restraint techniques as necessary, including but not limited to pepper spray, baton, and handcuffs

Must have a valid Maine Drivers License. If a valid license is held from another state, must be eligible to successfully transfer to a Maine Drivers License within 30 days of hire

Must have attention to detail and respond promptly and professionally when necessary

Be able to prioritize, organize and follow-up when needed

Have a clear command of the English language and be able to complete computer generated reports

Follow directions thoroughly, speak and interact with students, staff and visitor as necessary

Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team

Work with minimal supervision

Maintain confidentiality of departmental and University information

Must be certified or have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR /AED , OCAT , and CPI

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education or equivalent required and at least 6 months security, military or law enforcement experience preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, talk, hear, operate foot controls on automobiles and golf carts, climb stairs and use hands to finger, handle, and/or feel. The employee is also required to occasionally run, balance, crawl, climb, use ladders (up to 20 feet in height), as well as push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds. The employee must also exert physical effort including foot patrol and restraint of individuals as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
