Definition:

Under supervision of a Supervisor, performs varied types of manual and unskilled laboring work; may drive a truck in connection with laboring work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs varied types of manual and unskilled laboring work; loads, lifts, moves and sets up equipment; may set up and/or clean up for special events; performs other related duties as required. Empty trash and recycle cans. Picks up litter on stable and unstable surfaces.

Requirements:

Ability to: Perform manual tasks either alone or as a member of a group; perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of the time under varying temperatures and climatic conditions; follow prescribed procedures; utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems including radios, used by the agency, office, or related units; read, write, including the ability to read and write job cards, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

Tools and Equipment Used:

Simple hand tools and janitorial tools such as litter pickers and lobby pan with broom.

Physical Demands:

Position requires employee to: Continuously use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequently stand, walk, talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 50 lbs.; and occasionally sit, climb or balance, and smell. Special vision requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Position requires employee to: Continuously work in outdoor weather conditions such as sun, heat, wind, and rain; frequently work near moving mechanical parts, with vibration, and be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, insects, and poison ivy; and occasionally work in high, precarious places, be exposed to chemicals. Loud noise is typical of the work environment. Employee may occasionally be required to change work hours or work beyond normal quitting time.
