TITLE: Groundskeeper - Operations

JOB STATUS: FLSA Overtime Eligible

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

DEPARTMENT: Business Operations

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide students with an attractive and safe, natural environment in which to learn.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

* A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent.

* A proficiency in general repair and maintenance of tractors and mowers.

* A practical knowledge of lawn care including fertilizers, seeds, and sprays.

* An ability to communicate in a courteous manner.

* A neat appearance.

* Must have or be capable of obtaining within six (6) months of date of hire a chemical applicator and CDL license.

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

* Maintains and cares for school grounds.

* Mows school grounds with hand and power mowers.

* Prunes trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.

* Applies fertilizers and weed control chemicals as directed by Head Groundskeeper.

* Connects sprinkling equipment and waters lawns, athletic fields, and flower beds as directed.

* Adjusts and repairs such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and hedge shears as directed.

* Inspects flowers, shrubs, trees, and lawns for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and reports to Head Groundskeeper.

* Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse.

* During winter, assists in the plowing of snow from sidewalks, driveways, and playgrounds, and spreads sand or salt as needed. These seasonal duties require individual to be on call as required.

* Assists Head Groundskeeper in the repair of outdoor facilities.

* Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the storage, use and disposal of trash, rubbish, waste and hazardous material (OSHA).

* Complies with all Federal, state and local laws and regulations for the maintenance, repair and operation of equipment and machines (OSHA).

* Ensures the safety of students.

* Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relationships.

* Remains free of any alcohol or nonprescription controlled substance and abuse of any prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout employment in the district.

* Exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability, and sound judgment.

* Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, and intelligent human beings.

* Understands the legal responsibility to help instill in students the belief in, and practice of, ethical principles and democratic values.

* Maintains confidentiality and respect for confidential information at all times.

* Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 261 days (251 work days and 10 paid holidays); 8 hours per day, excluding lunch; number of days of vacation, holidays and salary as determined by Negotiated Agreement. Work year to be established by the Board.

SALARY: $19.83/HR. - $22.94/HR.
