Overview

Join our Solid Waste Department as a Labor I!

We're seeking a dedicated individual to join our team at the Larimer County Landfill. In this role, you will assist the public by providing information and guiding customers to the appropriate disposal and recycling areas.

The typical schedule for this position is a standard 8-hour shift each day from Tuesday to Saturday. This schedule ensures coverage on weekends, which are the busiest times for the Landfill and Diversion Area.

Responsibilities

Specifically, this position:

* Directs traffic on site to ensure smooth and safe operations

* Screens incoming waste to identify and remove hazardous materials before disposal.

* Operates various equipment, including pickup trucks, tractors, mowers, vacuum trailers, and vacuum litter machines.

* Manually picks up litter to maintain site cleanliness.

* Performs general maintenance tasks for the landfill shop, fences, and buildings.

We are looking for a candidate that will:

* Use routine software and business application including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.

* Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

* Read and comprehend department and County rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.

* Use safe working procedures.

* Provide professional customer service to clients and public.

* Accomplish the assigned workload in a timely manner and meet established performance standards and objectives.

* Effectively respond to conflict situations and people in conflict.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

* One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.

* Must be at least 18 years of age.

* Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.

* Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.

We are currently in the process of building a new transfer station at the current site and we are building a new landfill north of Wellington. The new operations are tentative to be opened in Oct 2025-Jan 2026.
