Description

Applications are being taken for Secretarial/Clerical substitutes. Clerical testing is required. This position is on-call with no guarantee of hours and no benefits are offered. Secretarial/Clerical substitutes work when schools are open and will be called to work at all locations within Spokane Public Schools, so reliable transportation is important. Few, if any, substitute jobs are available during the summer months.

  • SALARY: $19.07620 per hour
  • HOURS PER DAY: Varies
  • ON-CALL POSITION.
  • NO GUARANTEE OF HOURS.

Responsibilities

Please note that there is no training associated with this substitute position, so good experience in a multi-task environment is essential. Some aspects of the position include answering phones, word processing, data entry, medication aide, dealing with emergency situations, helping administrators, staff, office managers, and other secretaries with secretarial or clerical needs. Secretarial/clerical work at school sites are extremely busy and hectic - you may be required to deal with parents, students, staff, phones, and other duties at one time. Flexibility and ability to deal with many situations going on at one time is required.
Qualifications

  1. Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  2. High school diploma or GED.
  3. Some secretarial/clerical work experience.
  4. Accurately type 40 words per minute.
  5. Ability to work at cashier-type tasks.
  6. Ability to prepare accurate statistical reports.
  7. Ability to communicate orally and handle telephone inquiries.
  8. Good basic office skills in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  9. Demonstrated ability in use of Windows, WordPerfect or MS Word; spreadsheet programs experience preferred.
  10. Previous experience working with various database programs helpful.
  11. Demonstrated ability to work positively and efficiently with a diverse group of students, staff, and community in a confidential manner.
  12. Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  1. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  2. Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement () as negotiated.
