Location: Rye Brook, NY
Schedule/Hours: Tues-Thursday (2:00 am - 7:00 am) and Saturday
(12:00 pm-5:00 pm)
In this role, you will:
Under the guidance of the senior cytology prep technologist and cytology supervisor in this position you will be responsible for the technical processing of cytology Fine-Needle Aspirations and other fluid specimens. You will also be responsible for all patient integrity, accountability and quality assurance during specimen handling.
Gross and prepare direct smears, cytospins/cytoconcentrates and cell blocks. Stain, cover slip, collate and book all cases. Responsible for the documentation and quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to identify and confirm patient identity, sample integrity and accountability.
- Receipt of specimens that require opening, verifying patient identity, labeling, numbering, and transcription of written information from the test requisition.
- Technical processing and grossing of all cytology specimens including fine needle aspirations, non-gynecological smears and cytoconcentrates utilizing ThinPrep and cytospin/Hettich technology.
- Stain, cover slip, collate and book all cases processed.
- Perform QC and QA of all slides processed.
- Maintain all daily logs including specimen integrity log, specimen processing and all maintenance logs.
- Answer the phones and correspond to the needs of the client, laboratory and pathologist.
- Promptly communicate problems or matters that need attention to the senior cytology prep technologist and cytology supervisor.
All you need is:
- NYS license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technician or Technologist
- 1 year of related laboratory experience
- Working knowledge of computers and various applications
Bonus points if you've got:
- Associate's degree in related science
- Knowledge of medical terminology
