**Job Title:** Billing/Patient Services Specialist **Supervised by:** Senior Staff accountant * Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information into practice management software; Abstract information from medical record and assign appropriate codes as necessary.

* Prepare and submit claims to third party insurance carriers either electronically or by hard copy billing.

* Post charges, payments and adjustments.

* Understand insurance benefits including copays, deductibles and coinsurance.

* Interpret, post, and balance Explanation of Benefits and Remittance Advices.

* Research, correct, and re-submit rejected and denied claims.

* Review delinquent accounts and make payment arrangements with patients.

* Prepare appeals for denied claims.

* Respond to third party carriers request for medical record documentation.

* Answer patients billing questions.

* Must be organized in dealing with patient files and documents.

* Schedule appointment, carefully screens patients for insurance, new address, new patient visit or update registration and inform patient of adequate information that must be presented at time of visit

* Verifies method of payment for services and collects data and/or payment as appropriate.

* Informs patient of any existing balance noted in computer and request patient be prepare for any payment due at time of visit.

* General office filing, scanning sort faxes, faxing documents, and mail delivering to appropriate staff.

* High school graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required. Vocational training in health care related fields a plus, some work-related experience with billing and accounts receivable generally preferred.

* Pleasant telephone etiquette; ability to deal tactfully and effectively communicate with patients; must be computer literate.

* Strong organizational, quantitative skills and analytical skills.

* Demonstrated accuracy with a strong attention to detail.

* Excellent work ethic and ability to prioritize tasks.

* Detailed and process improvement oriented.

* Excellent problem-solving skills.

* Ability to present findings and discuss issues with providers effectively.

* Ability to shift focus as necessary when priorities change without losing sight of original assignments.

* Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, compliance, insurance, liability and tertiary payment methods.

* Willing and able to work extended hours as business needs require.

* Strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism regarding company and employee information.

* Strong listening, decision-making, time management, communication, and critical-thinking skills.

* Performance-driven with demonstrated ability to multi-task and work proactively with cross-functional teams.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, particularly excel.

* Two years of collections experience from multispecialty group for physician billing preferred.

* Experience with and knowledge of FQHCs billing (Federally Qualified Health Centers) is preferred

* Knowledge of healthcare carriers and payer requirements

* Bi-lingual preferred but not required.

* This job operates in a health care setting. This position requires frequent standing and walking.
