Job Summary

The Academic Enhancement Center's part-time tutors provide academic tutorial support to currently enrolled GGC students. Part-time tutors engage in student success initiatives, such as study skills workshops, professional development training, and promotional events. This PT Tutor position works to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to become independent learners with an emphasis on supporting English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish-speaking students.

Responsibilities

* Provides face-to-face and online tutorial assistance in writing with an emphasis on supporting ESL and Spanish-speaking students

* Engages in the TIC-TAC-TOE tutoring program

* Assists with AEC promotional events

* Participates in professional development training, including CRLA initiatives

* Establishes and maintains relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration

* Engages in active communication with GGC community

* Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

* 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in a related field

* Grade of B (2.75) or better in coursework related to the subject to be tutored

* 1 year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

* Graduate Degree in a related field

* Willingness to work non-standard hours

* Experience working with under prepared students from diverse backgrounds

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Must be flexible to attend and/or present at offsite or on-campus workshops or professional development opportunities to enhance the program's efficiency

* Must have phenomenal written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish

* Able to attend meetings and training sessions, including CRLA initiatives

* Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of people, meet deadlines, and work under minimal supervision

* Ability to handle confidential information

* Ability to maintain a weekly schedule of 15-19 hours per week throughout the fall and spring semesters

* Ability to tutor students face-to-face and online
