Starting Salary for this position is $16.24 hourly
The City of Monterey invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Recreation Leader. Recreation Leaders may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, and special events.
Approx. 25 - 35 hours per week (summer season)
Approx. 10 - 25 hours per week (non-summer season)

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that has provided the required knowledge and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance are qualifying. Example: Senior status at an accredited high school. Related paid or volunteer experience such as a youth sports coach or official, or youth leader is highly desirable.
Knowledge of theories, rules and regulations of sports, games, arts and crafts; safety practices, proper lifting techniques; Ability to follow oral and written instruction; work alone, or with children, teens and adults; enforce safety rules and regulations; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross Standard First Aid and Community CPR Certification is required for continuous employment. Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is desirable.
Physical Requirements: Positions in this classification may perform tasks requiring continuous physical effort including setting up and taking down tables and chairs for classes and special events, climbing, bending, lifting and pulling equipment and materials weighing 50-75 lbs. Applicant must be at least 16 years of age. Applicant must be available to work on-call, assigned shifts, nights, weekends and holidays. This position may be required to work in difficult circumstances and in inclement weather.
