Job Description / Essential Elements:

Position Description:

Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students, parents and/or staff on drop-in and appointment basis.
Assist students and parents in developing academic plan for each assigned student.
Process teacher referrals and refer serious discipline problems for further counseling/action.
Intervene with attendance problems by dealing directly with student and home, referring on those with serious and/or habitual attendance violations for further counseling/action.
Assist students who have personal and/or social challenges, especially those students not succeeding within the comprehensive school program.
At direction of site administrators, work with teachers in classroom on problem prevention.
Be a resource person for college, career, and scholarship information as appropriate.
Participate in curriculum evaluation and development.
Maintain records on each assigned student.
Attend professional and school meetings when appropriate.
Conduct standardized testing as directed and provides interpretation of test results to students, parents, and staff.
Maintain contact with community agencies that provide additional support for students.
Be available to students on campus during designated times each day.
Assist in opening and closing of school year.
Be available to attend school department meeting as resource personnel when requested.
Facilitate 504/Accommodation Plan meetings and Student Study Teams.
Monitor credit standing and make appropriate referrals for interventions
Be responsible for data entry of schedules and alterations to schedules when appropriate.
Be responsible for classroom presentations of guidance and counseling related issues
Assist support services personnel and teachers in meeting needs of the exceptional student, including participation in IEP team meetings.

Professional Requirements:
Valid credential authorizing service as a counselor in a secondary school.
Previous experience as a public school counselor is desired.

Salary:
The current range for this position is $84,403 - $103,626.
