Position Profile: Front Office Floater


Reports To: Business Office Manager



Position Summary:


Provides key interface between patients, clinical and medical staff. Performs patient check-in (registration) and check-out (discharge) functions to include collection of over-the-counter patient co-pays and payments, updating patient demographics, scheduling of return appointments, posting of charges & payments and performing the daily closing.



Essential Position Functions:


  • Greets patients in a friendly, prompt and helpful manner.


  • Instructs new patients in completion of medical history and registration forms.


  • Maintains accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information by verifying this information at each patient encounter.


  • Manages patient flow by providing timely check-in procedures upon arrival and check-out procedures at end of patient visit.


  • Sets up medical records for new patients and inserts update information into established patient medical records.


  • To ensure collections of patient responsibility balances, collects patient co-pays, deductibles and other balances according to practice protocols and carrier requirements.


  • For financial control, stamps checks as received and secures them as directed.


  • To ensure patient compliance, schedules return appointments in accordance with scheduling guidelines and provider requests.


  • To ensure accuracy of daily batch entries, balances charges and payments with batch report and encounter forms and submits all to Business Office Manager for verification.


  • Performs other duties as required.

None


Position Requirements:


  • High school education or G.E.D. equivalent. Completion of a two-year course for medical assistant would be an advantage.


  • 2 years of recent front office (registration and discharge) experience in a medical practice is required.


  • Knowledge and experience with front office procedures, office equipment and medical terminology


  • Possesses accurate data entry skills.


  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
