Job Responsibilities

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is seeking a hardworking and dependable candidate just like you to apply! This position will offer great benefits with the state, including 15 days of annual and sick leave per year or more depending on applicable state service.

Coordinates, directs, and performs custodial duties to keep the museum ships, piers, and buildings in a clean and orderly condition. On a daily basis, plans, prioritizes, and performs work tasks for assigned areas of responsibility, to include but not limited to:

  • Office spaces, display rooms, passageways, restrooms, stairways, piers, berthing compartments, and sales areas. Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, and polish decks and floors.
  • Vacuum rugs, carpets, and furniture. Dust furniture and fixtures. Empty trash and clean restrooms.
  • Occasionally supervises assigned contractors and temporary employees hired to assist with cleaning all areas of responsibility.
  • Supervises and assigns tasks as shift leader during regular overtime events, on weekends, and holidays. Inspects all assigned areas of responsibility daily for cleanliness, serviceability, and safety.
  • Maintains inventory of necessary supplies, requisitions supplies as needed, and submits maintenance requests when required.
  • May be responsible for supervising the set-up of museum functions and events when required. Coordinates and directs outside vendors/ contractors tasked to support special event functions.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety practices, including knowledge of procedures to protect against bloodborne pathogens, clearly understand and comply with all hazardous waste disposal regulations per agency guidelines. May be required to train new employees.
  • Employee may be required to work after normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, emergencies and or special events. Employee may be required to perform other duties as assigned to accomplish the mission of the Agency.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Experience in custodial work that is directly related to the area of employment. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Additional requirements:
  • Knowledge of skills, methods, and procedures necessary to perform custodial duties.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in all areas of custodial duties.
  • Individual should be skilled in the use of all custodial equipment necessary to perform duties, i.e., sweepers, vacuum cleaners, buffers, and polishers, and should possess the basic computer skills to enter time/leave in computer and complete online training.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities to properly perform required tasks could be acquired through previous job experience.
  • Employee will receive written and verbal instructions and is given limited personal discretion in the performance of duties.
  • Employee must be able to climb vertical ladders, walk long distances in a single workday, and lift up to 30 pounds.
