The Department of Health and Human Services, Street Outreach Network (SON) is recruiting for full-time and part-time Community Service Aide III (CSA III) positions. The CSAIII will provide outreach, engagement, positive youth development and culturally based trauma informed services primarily to newcomer adolescents as well as directing them to needed resources to address social emotional needs.

This position will work as part of a team approach to address gang and youth violence in the County by working with other SON workers to identify gang involved youth and/or youth at highest risk for gang involvement and work with community organizations and agencies/departments of local and/or state government to secure needed support services.

Positions could be assigned to work in the school and community settings supporting:

Newcomer youth from Central and South America, Middle Eastern, as well as the Caribbean. (Full Time)

Bridges to Wellness Program (Full Time)

Street Outreach Network (Full Time)

Safe Space (Part Time)

These positions will work with school staff, community leaders and residents to educate, inform, develop, and implement collaborative strategies related to gang prevention and intervention needs for gang involved youth such as providing school- based intervention services.

Bilingual applicants in the Amharic, French, and Spanish to English languages are encouraged to apply , especially Mam speakers and other Indigenous Languages from the Diaspora of The Americas. If the candidate selected for this position possesses multilingual skills, they will be required to successfully pass an examination assessing oral communication, reading comprehension, and interpreting skills. For Advanced proficiency, the candidate must also pass an examination requiring translating text from these languages to English and vice versa.

Positions filled under this recruitment require a medical exam with drug screen and criminal background clearance.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of experience providing delivery of social, health and/or public assistance services.

Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid driver's license when required for job-related duties.

Preferred Criteria

Preference for interviews will be given to applicants with education and experience in the following:

  1. Five years of experience working with gang involved youth and providing school based positive youth development programming with high-risk students with violent behaviors.
  2. Experience and trained in trauma informed services working with gang involved youth.
  3. Strong interpersonal skills
  4. Strong Teamwork philosophy
  5. Strong decision making and sound judgement skill during complex situations
  6. Experienceworkingwith newcomer youth who recently arrived in the United States.
  7. Experience working with or trained in culturally based, healing informed practices that serve Central and South American youth as well as youth from the Caribbean.
  8. Experience and working knowledge of youth and gang culture in Montgomery County or similar jurisdictions (DC, MD, and VA)
  9. Experience working with schools and community stakeholders in community - based collaborations.
  10. Experience working collaboratively as team to accomplish program goals.
  11. Bilingual Amharic, French, or Spanish to English prophecy
