Job Details

The Department of Central Transport at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Hospital Attendant 1 (Evenings). The successful candidate will:

* Be responsible for transporting patients safely and efficiently to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas via wheelchairs, stretchers or beds as requested for their diagnostic procedures and upon patients discharge.

* Transport deceased patients to the morgue.

* Assist nursing personnel with transferring patients to and from beds, wheelchairs or stretchers as needed.

* Transport laboratory specimens by picking up specimens and delivering them to specified laboratory in facility and off campus.

* Respond promptly to stat calls

* Pick-up and deliver patient related items to various nursing units within the hospital

* Communicate to nursing personnel, clinicians, technicians or receptionist of patient arrival and departure.

* Disinfect patient wheelchairs and stretchers between each patient use and maintain par levels of equipment.

* Have the ability to perform frequent bending, twisting, lifting, pushing and pulling 50lbs and above, as required to transport patients, charts specimens and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic procedures throughout all areas of the facility.

* Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the manager or administrator on duty, as business needs require.

Required Qualifications:

* Non-Competitive: possession or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period.

Preferred Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or equivalent.

* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

* Prior experience in a hospital environment.

* Computer literacy.

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 4:00pm to 12:00am (Full-Time Evenings)

Salary Grade/Rank:

SG-5

Salary Range:

As per civil service guidelines

* Hiring Rate: $33,313 Base Salary plus $3,087 Location Pay and $575 Inconvenience Pay/Shift Differential.
