Description

Job Summary:

The Funeral Service Mortuary Student will support and assist the Funeral Directors, Funeral Staff, and clientele, performing various tasks required to deliver respectful, professional, and thoughtful funeral services.
Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide complete and accurate paperwork as needed to the Funeral Director.
  • Maintain a record of removal and embalming of all deceased persons for school purposes.
  • Maintain all embalming instrumentation and equipment.
  • Assist with the embalming, dressing, casketing, applying cosmetics, or cremating of the decedent according to the industry standards and practices, technical, safety, and sanitary requirements under the direction of a Licensed Funeral Director.
  • Observe how to facilitate all arrangements for the visitation, funeral, and burial services with sensitivity to the family and officiant's requirements.
  • Knowledge of removal equipment and cots.
  • Keeps up to date on writing and submitting all reports as required per school agreements. Assists with floral arrangement placements and removal transportation.
  • Courteously greets all visitors.
  • Prepares vehicles for daily use, including the following duties: full vacuum, clean windows, and full gas tank.
  • Directs and leads mourners to and from rooms or chapels where services and visitations are being held.
  • Assists mourners as they enter and exit limousines, funeral vehicles, or other forms of transportation.
  • Oversees processions and assists with cemetery parking as needed.
  • Acts as pallbearer when necessary.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a safe driving record in accordance with Cedar Memorials' insurance policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a safe driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Must possess the desire to exceed family expectations.
  • Ability to neatly arrange flowers at the funeral home and burial site.


Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Currently enrolled in Mortuary School, required.
  • Valid driver's license, including any special endorsement that may be necessary to operate vehicles used to transport caskets.


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times and 50+ pounds with the assistance of a team lift.
