WIN Waste Innovations is currently looking for a Fuel and Ash Manager. The Fuel and Ash Manager is responsible for directing and supervising the Labor Department and ash operators to ensure the facility is operated and maintained in a clean, safe and efficient manner.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and manages the operational labor support in all areas within the plant including, but not limited to: housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Coordinates and plans work schedules of the laborers, ash operators, transfer stations and tipping floor. Provides direction to all and assigns work.
  • Manages the operation of the ash house to ensure the flow of ash allows all desired operation of the three boilers.
  • Trains personnel in the operation of forklift trucks, front-end loaders and other auxiliary equipment as required.
  • Provides training to reports as needed to safely and efficiently meet VPP Standards and company policies.
  • Oversees and manages the general housekeeping duties in and around the plant, to ensure the safe, clean and efficient operation of the facility (i.e., cleaning floors, emptying garbage, removing debris).
  • Works closely with the Operations and Maintenance Managers and the EH S Director to meet the facility's safety and operational goals.
  • Assigns day-to-day tasks to laborers ash operators, monitors work, and reports unusual circumstances to plant manager.
  • Ensures the proper disposal of ash, mud, gravel, garbage and other materials.
  • Prepares plant for group visits.
  • Coordinates the activities of designated vendors/contractors when on-site.
  • Serves as the Plant Manager's representative during periods when Upper Management is not on site.
  • Maintains and enforces Company policies and procedures, environmental compliance, safety and health.
  • Trains assigned personnel in safety procedures and equipment use; also trains in plant operating procedures, and environmental standards and compliance. Implements corporate and plant training programs and monitors and encourages continued progress in the programs by assigned personnel.
  • Conducts performance appraisals-assesses skills levels of staff, and determines need for coaching, training and/or performance planning. Communicates and documents performance problems to staff in appropriate manner and on timely basis. Writes disciplinary documentation as performance issues occur and reports any repetitive or unusual situations to Plant Manager for immediate intervention. Completes appropriate forms, accident and equipment damage reports, approval of timesheets, and documentation of attendance and tardiness.
  • Creates work requests through Tabware.
  • Makes frequent rounds of the facility to ensure proper operation of equipment, materials storage and handling, facility security, cleanliness, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Safely operates and provides documented training for the operation of forklifts, front-end loaders, and other auxiliary equipment such as pressure cleaners, pumps, fans, compressors, and jackhammers to maintain cleanliness, safety and plant efficiency. Safely operates and trains laborers in the safe handling and use of hand tools, such as grinding equipment to successfully and efficiently repair machinery.
  • Corrects safety and environmental hazards and makes certain that all laborers have and use proper personal protective and other safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complete the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
  • Follows standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards. Reads, understands, and implements lockout/tagout, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.
  • Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas.
Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Bachelors or Associates Degree, or equivalent in a technical degree program is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the trash fired, mass burn, steam powered generating plant.
  • Understanding of all plant auxiliary systems and equipment operation.
  • Understands plant hazards, company safety procedures and is proficient in the use of safety equipment, including fire protection equipment.
  • One to three years related experience applying technical skills sufficient to perform such routine tasks as efficiently handling hand tools, power tools, and operating motorized equipment.
  • Two years of experience directing and guiding 4 or more employees in a power plant, manufacturing, warehousing or other similar facilities.
  • Mechanical skills sufficient to perform such routine tasks as opening vessel and equipment access doors, placing and removing furnace access equipment, overhead protection and staging, operating power tools, and performing minor mechanical repairs to plant equipment or structures
Certificates and Licenses:
  • Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies
Supervision Provided:
  • Directly supervises 4-8 employees.
  • Coordinates the activities of designated vendors/contractors.
  • Decisively and effectively directs personnel during all situations.
  • Perform tasks or functions completely with minimal supervision.
  • Recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the workplace and displays proper judgment in responding to them.

  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
