Academic Advisor

Chatham University invites applicants for the position of Academic Advisor.

The Academic Advisor assists first-year undergraduates with their academic plans, including course selection, choice of major, and other academic activities. This position will work with the academic departments to offer training for faculty advisors and to assist with reviews of academic progress. Incumbent must assure quality services to students and consistent implementation of relevant institutional policies. The position reports to the Director of Academic Advising.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise undergraduate students individually and/or within groups on appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources.
  • Assist with developing and entering academic schedules in the campus student information system.
  • Attend on-campus and remote student registration days, with new student Orientation, and help with student visit days in conjunction with campus recruiters.
  • Be familiar with academic policies and processes and requirements and serve as a resource for students and faculty.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student records and other information according to FERPA regulations.
  • Assist faculty with academic advising concerns and reviews of student graduation requirements.
  • Monitor shared email inbox for Academic Advising, provide prompt and courteous replies to questions or requests.
  • Evaluate and apply previously earned academic credit toward degree requirements such as, but not limited to, AP credits, College in High School/Dual Enrollment credits or other University credits.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, antiracism and the ability to foster inclusive communities, with special sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and strong commitment to excellent customer service and a student-centered experience.
  • Experience working with students, faculty, and staff to deliver collaborative initiatives, programmatic support, and offer guidance to enhance student performance and development.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years comparable higher education experience.
  • Prior experience with advising first year student populations strongly preferred.
  • Required skills include proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, ability to quickly learn and utilize proprietary educational software, exemplary written and verbal communication skills, basic math ability, attention to detail, and excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Slate and Anthology, or other Student Information System a plus.
  • Individual should have excellent relational skills with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the ability to help students from diverse cultures, abilities, and backgrounds feel supported.
  • Must function comfortably in a team structure and be able to speak before large and small groups with confidence.


Salary Range:

$41,900 - $47,600. 35-hour work week.

Exact compensation based on candidate skills and experience.
