Job Overview:

Reporting to the President and under the guidance of the Chief Legal Officer, this attorney will serve as the General Counsel of Monument Consulting, LLC, a managed services provider, and serve as core member of the management team to help guide the organization as it grows in volume, territory, and business practice. The ideal candidate will have (a) 8+ years of experience in corporate law or similar business-focused legal support, (b) a demonstrated ability to manage and drive business projects or corporate endeavors, including the review and negotiation of client and vendor contracts, (c) excellent counseling and communication skills, including experience directly advising and working with non-lawyer management personnel to achieve business results, (d) an ability to work well independently and supervise non-lawyer resources, and (e) an ability to gather input from appropriate external experts (e.g. outside counsel) and synthesize it to assist the business stakeholders to make thoughtful and organized decisions about matters of strategic importance, while driving revenue growth.


Specific Duties and Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as trusted counselor to senior management of Monument, assisting them with sound decision making and developing frameworks for issue spotting and efficient resolution.
  • Work directly with Monument leadership to evaluate, negotiate, structure, close and deliver commercial opportunities.
  • Act as dedicated Legal liaison to Monument, including coordinating Legal support for all issues, working with other members of Legal team in areas such as labor & employment, data privacy, information security and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate key risks associated with operations, whether arising from the nature of the work, organizational design, compensation incentives and similar.


Expected Distribution of Duties:

  • 30% General Legal Advice (Day to day questions and challenges that occur in the normal course of running a business, guidance on compliance, and research and guidance on new business initiatives)
  • 50% Contracts (negotiation, redlining of business contracts, language drafting, and creation of contract formats (amendments, SOWs, minor agreements))
  • 20% Legal administration (coordinating with outside counsel and parent company legal team, organizing contracts, advising supply chain teams on contract flow downs)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree and member in good standing of at least one state bar.
  • 8 years of experience as a corporate attorney or in a similar business-focused legal role, ideally some of which was in-house.
  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to Richmond, VA.
