Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Brief Job Description:

Primary focus is to provide maintenance support to plant facilities and operations by performing preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of process, instrumentation, electrical and manufacturing equipment. Maintenance team members are responsible for the safe removal, assembly/disassembly, repair, installation, improvement, and preventative maintenance of highly specialized production equipment.

Good safety and environmental performance are job requirements. Employees are expected to support all Safety, Environmental, Quality and Personal Development activities/systems. The DuPont plant is a smoke free work environment.

Candidate works as part of a team working to populate the SAP-PM system with appropriate componentization of equipment and set up the appropriate work maintenance schedules while also tracking time and consuming materials within SAP.

This position requires flexibility, initiative, and perseverance to troubleshoot and solve complex problems. Additionally, the position is expected to anticipate problems and take decisive steps to avoid adverse impact on the facilities or equipment.

Person will be required to participate in root cause failure analysis and safety incident investigations around equipment breakdowns. Must be able to analyze and understand trend charts and be able to draw conclusions.

Job duties may also include general maintenance and upkeep of facilities, grounds, and support of utility equipment as needed.

Maintenance employees participate in plant committees, continuous improvement activities, and incident investigations, etc. and use desktop computers with the Microsoft Office suite. Other special projects or duties are assigned as needed.

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for completing various maintenance tasks around the plant in an accurate and safe manner. The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist Maintenance and Operating Teams with general maintenance and equipment repairs
  • Maintain complete records, manuals, technical references, prints, and diagrams associated with all plant maintenance and repair activities
  • Interprets blue prints, sketches, and verbal instruction.
  • Complete interlock testing
  • Update work instructions, procedures, and other media
  • Use desktop computer-based systems such as SAP, ETQ Reliance, email, and MS Office Suite, etc.
  • Sets up and operates power pipe cutting and threading machines.
  • Use pipe bender and portable power and hand tools.
  • Performs all necessary operations involving cutting, threading, bending, soldering, assembling, and aligning to ensure satisfactory installation and operation.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics operations
  • Install and maintain hydraulic equipment.
  • Environmental responsibilities include proper disposal of waste materials to prevent pollution and use of proper safety procedures to reduce employee health risk.
  • Participate in training and continuous improvement events


Requirements

Minimum Competencies Required:

  • Pass pre-employment medical and background screenings
  • Pass pre-employment job testing
  • A trade/technical degree or higher in a maintenance, mechanical, or related field
  • 3+ years of mechanical experience on processing equipment
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial plant maintenance
  • Knowledge, skills, and ability to safely use maintenance tools and equipment
  • Prior industrial work experience: multi-skilled/multi-disciplined/multi-craft
  • Work experience in following areas:


General Mechanical Maintenance, Machinery (pumps, compressors, rotating equipment, vibration analysis, etc),

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to follow and help write detailed maintenance procedures
  • Knowledge of computer systems (e.g., e-mail, Windows, SAP, Microsoft Office) and willingness to learn other computer applications
  • Knowledge of basic science/math
  • Knowledge of quality systems


The following are preferred:

  • Knowledge of IP21 and/or PLCs preferred
  • Experience in General Electrical Instrumentation a plus
  • Ability to work on all aspects of control work - instrument and electrical
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in electrical troubleshooting, wiring motors, heaters, conduit work, and replacing electrical components (e.g., starters, breakers, fuses, contactors, ballasts, light bulbs)
  • Knowledge of three phase circuits, 480 Volt, and B phase ground
  • Ability to use Programmable Logic Controllers to troubleshoot equipment issues and make improvements.
  • Familiarity with programming variable speed drives for AC and DC motors
  • High awareness of electrical safety and the need for operating discipline
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management

  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds
  • Be able and willing to wear all PPE required for a high hazard, chemical industrial manufacturing environment and completion of maintenance work tasks
  • Be able and willing to wear a respirator both continuously or intermittently and throughout the shift
  • Can work up to 12 hours/day-at any time of day
  • Climb up and down staircases, ladders, and scaffolding on an hourly/daily basis to perform job tasks
