Job Details

Mineral Park is an open-pit copper/molybdenum mine located near Kingman, Arizona, a Tier-1 mining jurisdiction. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by heap leach followed by SX/EW. Mineral Park is currently in a construction phase to restart milling and concentrating operations. The project includes upgraded crushing and grinding circuits with copper and molybdenum flotation with operations expected to commence in early 2025.

Job Description:

The Chief Geologist is responsible for the management of all mine geological activities. Emphasis will be on grade control, model reconciliation, and collection and interpretation of geological data. The incumbent will report to the Mine Manager. Liaison with the Corporate Resource Manager will be necessary. This position requires minimal supervision and exercises independent judgment to effectively plan, manage, and complete all site-related geological projects. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and a multi-disciplinary team environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead and develop the geology team, ensuring that the team is resourced and trained appropriately

Oversee all ore control functions, determinations, and blasthole sampling

Oversee logging and sampling process to ensure consistency in sample quality and logging

Assess ore material types and work with metallurgical dept. by providing ore samples for testing and characterization

Oversee field geological, mapping, and interpretive efforts

Provide support and assessment for mine operations and mine planning

Provide support and assessment for slope stability

Oversee preparation of monthly reconciliations between the blasthole and resource block models

Oversee resource model development through monitoring of monthly reconciliations

Develop and conduct grade control measures

Develop and evaluate resource expansion opportunities

Development and management of geological databases and quality control measures

Assist with the interpretation and calculation of resource estimates

Assist operations management with preparation of budgets, progress reports, provision of geological information for mine planning, production grade forecasts, reconciliation of mine production

Technical memo writing, summary PowerPoints, and oral presentations

Ensure the site assay lab methods and procedures are appropriate for deposit style and utility of results

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

BSc in Geology or Geological Engineering, preference given to advance degree in Economic Geology

15+ years mining industry experience, with at least 8 years in open-pit mining operations with increasing responsibility

Track record of successfully leading and developing teams of geologists and other geoscientists

Extensive experience with ore control, data analysis, drill management, geostatistical and resource modeling, geological mapping and interpretation

Excellent data management skills with extensive Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) experience

Lead model to mine/mill reconciliation analyses

Extremely strong at developing and implementing well-designed actions for operational challenges

Experience in porphyry copper-molybdenum deposits with developed weathered profiles

Fosters a team-oriented work environment with proactive safety culture

Demonstrated experience of working collaboratively with other disciplines
