Beautiful hospital in IL is looking for Med Surg Float RN for 13 week contract. For more information please call Medical Solutions Accepts LOCAL clinicians *Temp license has been coming in 14 business days* Facility requires clinical prescreen. If recommended, the hiring manager has 24-hours to accept/decline this candidate. Unit Med Surg/ TELE - Inpatient Surgical - 3rd floor # Beds 48 (two buildings) Nurse:Patient Ratios 1:4-6 Nights 1:5-6 LPNs available, virtual admission and discharge nurses to assist as well. Primary care nursing model is frequently used. Must be okay with this. Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Common diagnosis / Types of patients Neuro- laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI, belly surgery-ostomies, hernia repair, joint replacement-total hips/knees. PICC, TPN, Lipids. Fem pop bypass, dialysis catheter insertions, BKA, AKA. DM (dialysis is also located on the 3rd floor) PCA, some epidurals, iv abx, chronic pain (narcotics), sepsis, urgent OR cases. Experience or 'Must have' skills Must have total joint experience. Understanding of PCA pumps, reversal drugs (narcan), sepsis management. Experience with TPN/ Lipids. Narcotic usage. 1 year of experience- surgical experience required. Are RN's required to titrate drips : Heparin. Common titratable &/or set rate drips Titrated per protocol. Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RN's required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? There is a tele monitor tech that monitors. RNs to interpret strips. Draeger Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes day shift is usually a Blessing staff nurse. Nights can sometimes be the house supervisor. Take a smaller assignment so they can assist. Are there Nurse Aides on this unit/Ratios Yes, although they do get pulled to be sitters. Night shift has more needs for CNA RT/Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, vents, etc.) CPAP- Home unit. Airvo possibly. RT to manage. Bipap occasionally (will stay on unit) Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 3-12 hour shifts starting at 7. Will not guarantee block scheduling. Discuss with leader for any scheduling needs. Schedules out 6 weeks in advance. Weekend Requirements Every other weekend. Sat. Sun for both shifts. Holiday Requirements In the holiday rotation with core staff Is there Call or a Standby requirement? none Floating Requirements? Float to like units only. If floated to higher acuity it would be to work as a help all and not take a patient load. Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs Provided? Black Unit/Department Specific Orientation 1- 12 hour shift on shift of hire and unit of hire. First day is 12-14 hours to do comps, computer based modules, general orientation. Additional Notes fast paced, heavy patients. Can get 8-12 surgery admites per day as well as discharging patients at time
