Crane Operator

Reports to:

  • The Crane Operator is responsible and accountable to the Yard Supervisor
Supervises:
  • None.
Description of Duties:

The Crane Operator is responsible to maintain and operate overhead crane and forklift to lift, move and position loads in a safe manner.
  • Plan, specify, and position rigging equipment for accomplishing work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Operating cranes to offload and backload tugs, barges, and etc.
  • Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal or signal instruction.
  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overloading.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain the crane, including mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
  • Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables as needed.
  • Complete daily checklist, delivery logs, maintenance schedule and all other necessary paperwork neatly and accurately.
  • Maintaining the appearance of the forklift and crane by keeping it clean, free of debris and painted.
  • Follow all safety procedures during all crane and forklift operations.
  • Know and understand McAllister's Safety Policy and comply with all the requirements of the Quality Safety Management System.
  • Assisting other departments as needed.
  • Ensuring personnel under your direction work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Proven experience working with an overhead crane, in all types of weather conditions.
  • Licensed as required under federal, state and local law.
  • Crane Operator Certificate from a nationally recognized and accredited certification program preferred.
  • Current Transportation Workers Identification Card.
Physical Requirements:
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee will frequently use both hands to grasp rails while climbing, to hold and carry tools equipment, to operate tools and machinery.
  • The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds or more on a consistent basis.

  • New Hire Familiarization Checklist (MCA-001)
  • Crane Operator Training
FLSA Status:
  • Non-Exempt
