Definition:

Under direction of a supervisory official, performs varied types of manual and unskilled laboring work and may drive a truck in connection with laboring work on occasion; does other related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Loads, lifts, and moves supplies, furniture, and equipment; collects rubbish and other refuse; rakes and sweeps; cuts grass; trims hedges; waters lawns, flowers, and vegetable beds; loads and unloads trucks; performs general painting work; shovels gravel and sand; cleans up underbrush, foliage, vines, and weeds; loads debris into truck for removal; occasionally drives trucks; will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Requirements:

Ability to: Perform manual tasks either alone or as a member of a group; perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of the time under varying temperatures and climatic conditions: follow prescribed procedures; utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units; read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

Special Requirements:

License: Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license. Must be able to drive a manual transmission.

Minimum Age: 18

Tools and Equipment Used:

Lawn mower, weed whacker, shovels, rakes, various hand tools, bicycle, mule, truck or automobile.

Physical Demands:

Position requires employee to: Continuously stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 10 lbs.; frequently walk, talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift up to 25 lbs.; and occasionally sit, climb or balance, ride a bicycle, lift up to 50 lbs. and 51 to 100 lbs. with assistance. Special vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Position requires employee to: Continuously work in outdoor weather conditions such as sun, heat, wind rain, and humidity; frequently work near moving mechanical parts; and occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and work with vibration.

Moderate to loud noise is typical for the work environment. The employee may occasionally be required to change work hours.
