Job Duties

Engage the public daily with accurate educational content, demonstrations, exhibitions, and hands-on activities that increase public knowledge of the origins, formation, spread, and enduring importance of American frontier culture. Work as a costumed interpreter at one of the Museum's historic farm sites, perform farm site work including but not limited to cooking, cleaning, textile processing, gardening and animal care and offer information to guest about the farm, its material and social history as assigned. Be able to study and learn both new farm tasks and skills as well as reading historical materials related to the Museum's interpretive plan.

Minimum Qualifications

Dependability, flexibility, positive and professional demeanor with outstanding oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with all age groups; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to set and achieve goals; knowledge of interpretive principles and methods; knowledge of cultural and social history and historical agricultural and domestic practices, computer skills and familiarity with office software and email, ability to work as a part of a team; ability to perform moderate physical labor including, but not limited to, garden and field work and general farm and domestic work; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and to lift up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted; ability to work outdoors in a full range of temperatures and weather conditions, and in smoky and dusty conditions; ability to project a positive, professional image to the public and peers at all times.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's degree in appropriate field from college or university preferred; considerable demonstrated interpretive skills or a combination of knowledge and experience will substitute for degree at the discretion of the agency. Skill and experience in traditional arts and crafts, vocal or instrumental music or trades and the ability to demonstrate the same before the public is preferred.
