The Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis invites applications for the Lillian and Morrie Moss Chair of Excellence position.

The Department of Psychology's Center for Applied Psychological Research, established in 1984, is one of the original Tennessee Centers of Excellence. The Lillian and Morrie Moss Chair of Excellence in Psychology was established in March of 1991.

The Department has 35 full-time faculty and Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology (APA-accredited and member of the Academy of Psychological Clinical Science), experimental psychology, and school psychology (APA-accredited) as well as a master's program in general psychology and an educational specialist program in school psychology. Research areas include behavioral neuroscience; child, adolescent, and family studies; clinical health psychology/addiction; cognitive science; and psychotherapy research. As a State of Tennessee Center of Excellence, the Department is able to provide competitive salaries and strong support for faculty research and professional development. Our track record for obtaining NIH, NSF, IES, DoD, and other sources of research funding is excellent. The University of Memphis is recognized as a "very high research activity" (R1) institution by the Carnegie Foundation and includes the NIH-funded Mobile Sensor Data-to-Knowledge (MD2K) Center.

We are seeking an established scholar whose research program is integrative and theory based. Criteria for a successful candidate include strong evidence of scholarship, current funding, and the ability to form interdisciplinary and inter-institutional bridges. We wish to hire a colleague with a doctoral degree in psychology or a closely related discipline in one of five areas: a) behavioral neuroscience, b) child, adolescent, and family studies, c) clinical health psychology/addiction, d) psychotherapy research, or e) cognitive psychology. Specific research focus within these areas is open; however, preference will be given to candidates that complement and expand existing departmental strengths.

In behavioral neuroscience, we are especially interested in candidates whose research addresses neural substrates of addiction, motivated behavior, memory, or mental disorders using cutting edge methodological techniques in humans or animal models. In clinical psychology, we are especially interested in candidates whose research addresses one or more of the following domains: addiction prevention or treatment; adult psychopathology or treatment; child and adolescent psychology including development, trauma, or psychopathology; health disparities; or pediatric health and health promotion. In cognitive science, we are interested in candidates specializing in individual differences in learning, intelligent tutoring, human-to-computer and human-to-human interactions, or general cognitive science.

Chairs of Excellence are expected to perform at levels exceeding those for the professor rank within the department, to mentor and graduate doctoral students, and to support research students, labs, and post-doctoral fellows by directing a nationally recognized and externally funded program of research.

Minimum Position Qualifications

* Ph.D. in psychology or a closely related field

* Expertise in areas related to a) behavioral neuroscience, b) child, adolescent, and family studies, c) clinical health psychology/addiction, d) psychotherapy research, or e) cognitive psychology.

* Experience in leading or contributing to external grants and contracts in the above areas.

* Strong evidence of scholarship, current funding, and ability to form interdisciplinary and inter-institutional bridges.
