Monday - Friday

5:00am to 1:30pm

6:30am- 3:00pm

Every other weekend and holidays as scheduled

Job Description

The Housekeeper/environmental service worker ensures cleanliness and infection control at a healthcare center by following established policies. This position performs general cleaning tasks in patient rooms, offices, hallways, and other areas. The Housekeeper also manages clean linens and stock levels on nursing floors, while adhering to standard practices and regulatory requirements

Essential Functions

Knowledge & Skill/Technical Capacity

  • Operates various equipment like mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, shampooers and related environmental service equipment.
  • Uses various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants to disinfect all areas and equipment.
  • Mop and vacuum floors and make beds.
  • The ability to plan and organize work to ensure completion of assignments.
  • A Housekeeper may be expected to coordinate housekeeping activities on the weekend in the absence of the Director of Environmental Services. This coordination may require the rescheduling of housekeeping staff and answering of all requests of the various departments.

Equipment
  • Obtains department directors approval when ordering non-routine supplies from Materials Management Department.
  • Relays equipment needs to the department director.
  • Set priorities, adjusts schedule and breaks to assure completion of assigned work, uses time productively.

Working Conditions/Environment
  • Occasional contact with infectious diseases.
  • May be exposed to latex supplies/products.
  • Unpleasant situations and odors are kept at a minimum but can occur.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle stressful conditions of the job.
  • Uses standard precautions when in contact with infectious material.
  • Uses personal protective equipment when there is a risk of exposure to chemicals and/or infectious materials.
  • Follows necessary precautions to avoid injury, including stretching and short breaks from repetitive actions.

Laundry/Linen
  • Distribution of clean linens to user departments and ordering of new linens to maintain an adequate supply for the facility.

Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Participates in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings.
  • Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not provide direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Experience & Skills Required
  • No set educational requirements
  • Education skills sufficient to comprehend regulatory policies/procedures relative to infection control and hazardous material.
