Express Employment Professionals is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Purchasing Manager. This is a great opportunity for a reputable company in the Sacramento area. In this role you will oversee the strategic sourcing, purchasing, and inventory control of all food and non-food materials required to produce our high-quality products. The ideal candidate will work proactively with management to ensure adequate stock levels, implement cost-saving measures, and manage strategic sourcing initiatives. The Purchasing Manager will report directly to the Controller.


Key Responsibilities:


Strategic Sourcing & Inventory Control:

  • Manage the sourcing and purchasing of all materials necessary to produce our products.
  • Maintain inventory control to ensure optimal stock levels and prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Work proactively with management to plan and implement cost-saving strategies.


Supplier & Logistics Management:

  • Provide oversight of in-bound logistics and supplier quality management programs.
  • Work with warehouse on inventory management, cycle counts, adjustments, and year-end inventory.
  • Establish and maintain advantageous relationships with suppliers to secure the best quality and cost for the company.


Product Specifications & Compliance:

  • Evaluate and report on supplier quality, service, and delivery performance.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure procurement needs are met to support daily business operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all Plant, State and Federal, FDA, HACCP, and BRC regulations regarding food safety.


Market Analysis & Product Development:

  • Analyze the market to identify and pursue new product development opportunities with private label and national brand sources.
  • Assess supplier capabilities to meet the company s strategic goals.
  • Negotiate and contract products/services at the best possible price while maintaining required quality standards.



Pricing & Contract Negotiation:

  • Accurately secure and present complete price quotes for all departments as needed.
  • Maintain the most current price lists for all vendors.
  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts and vendor agreements, ensuring legal correctness and acceptability of items to specifications.
  • Negotiate allowances, discounts, rebates, and term discounts from vendors.



Interdepartmental Communication:

  • Communicate effectively with Sales/Account Management teams regarding pricing, product quality options, and availability of appropriate substitutions.
  • Ensure operational and customer requirements are met through effective interdepartmental communication.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Purchasing Manager or similar role in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgement.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and MS Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, including FDA, HACCP, and BRC.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to handle materials and perform physical tasks such as reaching overhead, kneeling, or stooping as necessary.
