About the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine:

Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is a state-supported, community-based medical school established in 1977. The faculty and administration are committed to providing high-quality education and training emphasizing primary care at a relatively modest cost with both self-reliance and community support. Specializing in rural health issues, Marshall emphasizes the recruitment of students from rural West Virginia and placing graduates in clinical practice in rural areas.

Building upon its medical education foundation and responsive initiatives in research and clinical care, the School of Medicine seeks to develop centers of wellness in:
Addiction & behavioral health
Gerontology & aging
Obesity & diabetes
Rural health & primary care

The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine is committed to fulfilling its mission by creating a diverse and inclusive academic community that is sustained in a collegial and nurturing environment of life-long learning.

About the Community:

With its main campus located in Huntington, West Virginia, Marshall University is situated in the Tri-State region bordering Kentucky and Ohio, with a population of 365,000 in the Huntington-Ashland-Ironton metropolitan area. Huntington is 50 minutes west of the state capital in Charleston and offers many amenities, including a symphony orchestra, a museum of fine arts and an artists series.

In 2012, the American Planning Association named the city's 100-acre-plus Ritter Park one of the country's 10 Great Public Spaces. Huntington also features a performing arts center, pedestrian trail system, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, public libraries, and excellent medical facilities. Huntington has received a perfect score in the Municipal Equality Index for the past five years.

Although Huntington is only a few hours' drive from major metropolitan areas, West Virginia's population density is considerably less than the national average and the state is considered one of the nation's safest. The cost of living here is, on average, lower than the rest of the country. West Virginia is known as the outdoor recreation capital of the eastern U.S., with easy access from Huntington to skiing and snowboarding, whitewater rafting, camping, zip lining, rock climbing, and mountain biking. The relationship between the university and Huntington is extraordinarily positive and mutually beneficial.

Marshall University serves as a cultural hub, while also playing a major role in rural health care delivery, improvement of elementary and secondary education, and regional economic development. Marshall's economic impact in the region is estimated at $1.07 billion annually-a 14:1 return on public dollars invested in the university.

A complete application should include the following:

1. Cover Letter outlining your interest and qualifications for the position;

2. Updated CV;

3. Three (3) professional references with contact information, title, institutional affiliation, email address and direct phone numbers. (No references will be contacted without written permission from the candidate.)
