Description

SUMMARY

The Collections Assistant is responsible for collecting past due items. This position also promotes business for the Bank

by maintaining good customer relations. Assumes responsibility and is accountable for adherence to Bank policies and

procedures.

Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Assures audit compliance and procedure quality control through the branch operational review and recommends and initiates corrective actions; responsible for ensuring that the department is in compliance with established Bank policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  2. Assists in collecting past due loans, credit cards, checking accounts, and cash items.
  3. Collects on charged off accounts includes calling and sending letters, filing suits, garnishments, and Fi-Fa's.
  4. Monitor reports, file documents, type reports, letters, etc
  5. Processes paperwork and follow-up for bankruptcy filings, foreclosures, suits, garnishments, repossessions, and Fi-Fa's.
  6. Communicates with the department manager and may communicate with bank attorney when advised.
  7. Assists other branches and departments in resolving related inquiries and providing staff support.
  8. Ensures accurate completion of related operational reports initiated by the Bank's data processor(s) along with internal reports.
  9. Utilizes sound judgment in decision making process pertaining to collections.
  10. Maintains current knowledge of financial industry status and trends.
  11. Responds to inquiries or refers inquiries to the appropriate department or person, and exhibiting the necessary follow through with customers and/or staff involved.
  12. Consistently applies decision making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures, keeping within assigned approval limits and using these instances as learning tools for employee development.
  13. Processes, solves and answers customer transactions, problems or inquiries.
  14. Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances and resolve problems within given authority.
  15. Answers telephones, answers questions and directs callers to proper Bank personnel.
  16. Treats people with respect; keeps commitments; inspires the trust of others; works ethically and with integrity; upholds organizational values; accepts responsibility for own actions.
  17. Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; supports the Bank's goals and values; benefits the bank through outside activities.


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the

satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or

ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these

guidelines.
  • High School Diploma and 2 years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the financial industry.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, Bank operational policies and procedures, and the Bank's products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain all credit card services.
  • The ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Current Georgia driver's license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
