Overview

As an Environmental Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll work in the solid waste practice in our Gold River, CA office. If you enjoy working outside, this opportunity might be the perfect fit for you. You will serve as a technician responsible for completing field sampling programs for projects located within 3 hours of Sacramento. You will work under the direction of project managers and be responsible for completing groundwater, surface water, and air sampling activities, as well as operate and maintain field equipment. You will also assist on survey, soil sampling, and construction projects, and complete documentation of field activities. This is a part-time position typically 8 to 24 hours a week. Position may grow into a full-time position depending on applicant and project load. The majority of your time will be spent in the field and traveling to and from sites. You will gain experience by working with our team and interfacing with our clients and regulatory personnel.

Your duties will include:

    Plan and collect samples for various waste and industrial clients including air, soil and liquid media;
  • Completion of field survey activities for environmental projects;
  • Completion of appropriate paperwork, equipment maintenance, and preparation of field reports and database management;
  • Troubleshooting of landfill gas extraction wells, groundwater monitoring wells, pumps, valves and meters; and
  • Assisting with the preparation of compliance reports.

The pay range for this position is between $21-40/hour based on experience and location.

Qualifications
  • Enjoy working outside and be open to working flexible hours managing your own schedule to complete all sampling events on time.
  • Able to work up to 14 hours in one day.
  • 3+ years of experience as an environmental technician or related field;
  • Mechanical skills and attention to detail;
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to operate a pickup truck;
  • Ability to work independently in the field in varying weather conditions with strict adherence to operating procedures and safety policies; and
  • Must meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (occasionally up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with construction and environmental remediation projects;
  • Experience with air, soil and groundwater sampling techniques;
  • Technical degree (engineering, science or related field);
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and 8-hr refresher;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; and
  • Ability to speak and write professionally.
