Metro Water Recovery prioritizes the growth and development of our workforce. Our Utility Equipment Operators and Utility Workers, at every level, participate in Metro's Transmission Training Program. New hires undergo comprehensive training to ensure thorough understanding of collection system operations. Training includes on-the-job training with Collections staff, CDL school, and optional college courses in Water Quality Management. All training is paid for by Metro to support the success of trainees. The program's duration ranges from twelve to forty-eight months, tailored to individual trainees' competencies. Furthermore, aside from Certification Incentives, we offer enticing Reclassification Opportunities, enabling career advancement for our Utility Equipment Operators and Utility Workers.

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon the candidate's qualifications:

Utility Worker II ($26.62 - $36.03 Hourly)
Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of Metro's interceptor system and wastewater treatment facilities. Works under the direction of a Transmission Supervisor.

Utility Equipment Operator II ($28.25 - $39.41 Hourly)
Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of Metro's interceptor system and wastewater treatment facilities. Works under the direction of a Transmission Supervisor.

Utility Worker III ($28.25 - $39.41 Hourly)
Independently performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and treatments facilities. Works under the direction of a Transmission Supervisor.

Utility Equipment Operator III ($30.51 - $42.56 Hourly)
Independently performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and treatments facilities. Works under the direction of a Transmission Supervisor.

Utility Worker IV ($30.51 - $42.56 Hourly)
Performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and wastewater treatment facilities. Exercises independent judgement on work sites when a supervisor is not present. Provides direction and training to Utility Workers and may direct the work of lower classifications. Works under the direction of a Transmissions Supervisor.

Utility Equipment Operator IV ($32.95 - $45.97 Hourly)
Performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and wastewater treatment facilities. Exercises independent judgement on work sites when a supervisor is not present. Provides direction and training to Utility Equipment Operators and may direct the work of lower classifications. Works under the direction of a Transmissions Supervisor.

Utility Worker V ($32.95 - $45.97 Hourly)
Performs senior-level activities in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and treatments facilities, which ranges from 8-in. to 90-in. sewer mains over a 750 square mile service area and provides technical support to the Transmission Operations Manager. Works under the direction of a Transmission Operations Manager. Provides direction and training for Utility Workers. Provide functional leadership in the absence of a Transmission Operations Manager.

Utility Equipment Operator V ($35.58 - $49.65 Hourly)
Performs senior-level activities in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and treatments facilities, which ranges from 8-in. to 90-in. sewer mains over a 750 square mile service area and provides technical support to the Transmission Operations Manager. Works under the direction of a Transmission Operations Manager. Provides direction and training for Utility Equipment Operators. Provide functional leadership in the absence of a Transmission Operations Manager.

Utility Worker II
Graduation from high school or GED required. Collections System Operator Certification Class I or equivalent (out-of-state certifications will require reciprocity). Valid Driver's license.

Utility Equipment Operator II
Graduation from high school or GED required. Collections System Operator Certification Class I or equivalent (out-of-state certifications will require reciprocity). Valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.

Utility Worker III
Graduation from high school or GED required. Collections System Operator Certification Class II or equivalent (out-of-state certifications will require reciprocity). Valid Driver's license.

Utility Equipment Operator III
Graduation from high school or GED required. Collections System Operator Certification Class II or equivalent (out-of-state certifications will require reciprocity). Valid Class A CDL with tanker endorsement.

Working Conditions

Work Environment
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; high and low traffic zones, and outdoor weather conditions 2/3 of the time. The employee is exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration less than 1/3 of the time. The employee will be working in confined spaces 1/3-2/3 of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear more than 2/3 of the time. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; and climb or balance less than 1/3 of the time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 more than 2/3 of the time, up to 25 pounds 1/3 to 2/3 of the time, and more than 100 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.
