Job Responsibilities

Performs duties utilizing ATMS.NOW and Street Sync for programming signal controllers and keep database up to date. Set up and test signal cabinets in the shop based off of the intersection signal plans or revision drawings prior to field installation. Replace existing signal equipment such as signal cabinets, signal and pedestrian poles, electrical wiring, signal heads, highway lighting and navigation lighting due to damage or age. Respond to traffic signal, highway lighting or navigation lighting complaints, as well as after-hours emergency calls promptly making necessary repairs. Install, program and repair overhead and shoulder signal flasher related equipment such as time clocks and Carmanah solar flashers. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and inspections of traffic signal equipment to include preemption for railroads and emergency vehicles. Also maintains documentation and enters data into TEAMS of inspections conducted. Conduct inspections of intersections installed, repaired and rebuilt by contractors. Also ensures that all current SCDOT signal specifications are met. Also documents all work done by the contractor in a Daily Work Report/Journal. Operates bucket trucks, boats, digger derrick trucks and trailers for the repairs and installation of traffic signals, highway lighting and navigation lighting. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and one (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires driving for extended periods, walking, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be subject to a certain degree of risk working with electrical currents. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise on a daily basis.
