Housing/Real Estate client, seeking someone to be their Legal Clerk; they have preserved thousands of affordable apartments, and manage over 6,000 units across the city.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Commence and maintain nonpayment proceedings for all properties, HPD and NYCHA tenants.
  2. Generate logs, serve sheets, and labels throughout the nonpayment process.
  3. Assist tenants in person and on the telephone regarding concerns, rent, and disputes in a manner that balances fiduciary obligations with positive tenant relations.
  4. Process court stipulations, non-military affidavits, and affidavits of noncompliance.
  5. Potential to appear in general court appearances, conferences, hearings, inquests, and trials.
  6. Generate and review weekly reports for portfolio and follow up with agents, compliance coordinators on due dates for compliance issues.
  7. Respond to requests from outside tenant advocate agencies assisting tenants in legal proceedings.
  8. Accept and process rental assistant payments from HRA and other agencies.
  9. Work with other departments (property management, leasing, development) to address tenant concerns and gather necessary documents for court proceedings.
  10. Respond to inquiries and aid outside counsel regarding routine requests for court-related matters and information.
  11. Perform other related projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.


Required Skills:

  1. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local Housing Agencies.
  2. Experience appearing in Housing Court.
  3. Organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  5. Ability to access and interact with electronic databases.


Preferred Skills:

  1. Experience with YARDI.
  2. Customer service oriented.


Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Some College
