Co-Diagnostics Inc, (Co-Dx) is a Salt Lake City molecular diagnostics company committed to finding innovative diagnostic solutions to global health problems as we develop an at-home and point-of-care PCR test platform to detect viruses and other pathogens. We are looking for a solid PhD Scientist that will be responsible for leading research and development efforts, as well as providing support to other departments including regulatory, engineering, manufacturing, and post market surveillance.


Duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Design, develop, and optimize PCR-based assays for integration into diagnostic devices.
  • Conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to ensure robust assay performance.
  • Design biochemical assays to facilitate the development and QC of Co-Dx products.
  • Analyze and document experiment results according to company procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems related to assay development.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to integrate assays into medical devices.
  • Create and develop standard operating procedures.
  • Report progress to supervisor/management on a regular basis.
  • Meet regularly with other teams in Co-Dx to coordinate work. Contribute effectively to multidisciplinary scientific teams, including technical report writing and presentation of complex ideas and data.
  • Interface with collaborators outside the company.
  • Communicate results at scientific meetings.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts and contribute writing grant applications.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in biotechnology and diagnostic assay development; seek out innovative diagnostic solutions.
  • Job site and regular attendance is required.


Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills, Certifications, etc.)

  • Scientist I: Recent graduate with PhD in Biology, Chemistry or related field or related field and 5 years post graduate experience in a related field
  • Scientist II: PhD in Biology, Chemistry, or related field and 1 to 2 of relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience in PCR assay development.
  • Experience with assay integration into diagnostic devices is preferred.
  • Commercialization experience of IVD products for applications in human health and/or environmental surveillance is highly desirable.
  • Work experience in a regulatory-compliant environment, ensuring adherence to QMS requirements and rigorous documentation standards.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively contribute to multidisciplinary scientific teams, including technical report writing and presentation of complex ideas and data.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach to developing innovative solutions.
  • Strong analytical data interpretation and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Experience managing or leading junior team members.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work all required overtime.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and work under stressful conditions.
  • Absolute integrity in all aspects of duties performed.


Working conditions

  • May be required to wear PPE such as lab coat, safety glasses and/or face shields, safety gloves, and other safety equipment as needed.
  • May work a variety of shifts that include a traditional workday (8:00 am to 5:00 pm, etc.), a 9/8/80 schedule with every other Friday off, or other shifts as may be assigned.
  • Remote work is not regularly available for this role. There may be times when administrative work may be done remotely.
  • Travel may be occasionally required less than 10% of the time, to attend conferences or seminars.


Physical requirements

  • This job requires long periods of sitting or standing.
  • There will be stooping, bending, and twisting while gathering materials needed for experiments.
  • Based on the nature of the experiments to be performed, the ambient air temperature and/or humidity levels may fluctuate.
  • Must be able to lift 10-25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Fine motor coordination with hand and finger dexterity.
  • Good visual acuity including color perception.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
