SMG is seeking an Environmental Support Specialist in Huntsville, Alabama.

The key function of an Environmental Support Specialist is to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and facilitate communication between client departments and contractors. The Associate in this role will perform and supervise environmental fieldwork inside a manufacturing plant.

Overview of Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with client management and subject matter experts in the preparation and review of periodic reporting, including Tier II, State, and Federal Waste, discharge monitoring, Spill Prevention Countermeasure Control Plan, Risk Management Program, and other applicable environmental compliance reporting
  • Supervise and organize site waste sampling, profiling, and other disposal processes in compliance with state and federal waste regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate tracking and evaluation of environmental compliance assurance activities and information
  • Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to facilitate successful and environmentally compliant completion of multiple projects within project-specific conditions and schedule constraints
  • Representing the client in progress meetings remotely and on-site and discerning what project elements require input and guidance from an environmental compliance or remediation perspective
  • Assist with the development and approval of hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal profiles and manifests and properly label and coordinate disposal of solid and liquid waste


Requirements

  • One to three years of relevant environmental experience
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences or a related field
  • Working closely and providing oversight to manufacturing waste disposal projects
  • Working knowledge and application of RCRA regulatory requirements
  • Field reconnaissance for populating and updating new and existing SPCC plans

Physical Demands of the job may include:
  • Moving about long distances
  • Ascending/Descending stairs and ladders
  • Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period
  • Working in extreme weather
  • Being exposed to loud noises
  • Wearing personal protective gear correctly
