Job Title: Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MECH III)

Location: Goose Creek, SC

Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Motor Vehicle Mechanic (MECH III) to join our Automotive Maintenance Shops within the Maintenance Department. As a MECH III, you will be responsible for repairing, rebuilding, and overhauling major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors. This role involves diagnosing and troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, replacing worn or broken parts, and performing a variety of automotive maintenance tasks on tactical and combat equipment assigned to the APS-3 program.

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and determine the extent of repairs required on internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors.
  • Replace worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, and other engine components.
  • Grind and adjust valves; rebuild carburetors; overhaul transmissions; and repair fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Perform field-level maintenance on U.S. military automotive equipment, including diagnostics, parts identification, requisition, servicing, and repair in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.
  • Conduct limited A/C repair and service on a wide range of automotive and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in compliance with government regulations and local policies.
  • Properly handle, store, and dispose of hazardous materials and waste generated during duties, adhering to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Operate forklifts and dollies for the movement of materiel and assets.
  • May lead a team of 8-12 lesser qualified or experienced mechanics.
  • Utilize government-furnished special tools, property, and facilities to perform responsibilities.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) and local base access.
  • Capability to obtain a minimum of a SECRET security clearance.
  • Certificate of training from vocational school or related field with a major study in automotive maintenance, automotive technology, or another related field.
  • Completion of the basic automotive mechanics course, or equivalent is a plus.
  • Completion of the advanced automotive maintenance course, or equivalent is a plus.
  • Prior military maintenance training and experience on tactical and combat vehicles is a plus.
  • 4+ years of directly relevant work experience.
  • Ability to comply with established environmental regulations, methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to the position.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical instructions, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Possession of personal tools meeting the required tool list.
  • Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License; must obtain and maintain local base access.
  • EPA certification in Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Program (Section 609 of the Clean Air Act) is a plus.
  • ASE Certified in A or T series is a plus.
  • Work schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:30 am - 5:00 pm (OT/weekends as required during ship cycle).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to stand for 2 to 3 hours per day.
  • Must be able to walk for 4 to 5 hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. - 50 lbs. periodically.
  • Must be able to squat, kneel, bend, reach, and climb periodically.
  • Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
