A growing construction company, that is veteran and minority owned, is looking to expand their legal team with an ambitious and passionate Construction Litigation Counsel. As a Construction Litigation Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in managing and resolving all legal matters related to construction disputes, liens, defects, and other litigation issues. You will work closely with internal teams, external counsel, and other stakeholders to protect the interests of the company and ensure compliance with legal requirements. With the flexibility to work out of either Illinois or Florida, this role offers huge potential for growth and exciting day to day work.
The Construction Litigation Counsel will:
- Manage all aspects of construction-related litigation, including but not limited to disputes arising from project management, construction management, and electrical contracting activities. This involves drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, attending court proceedings, and representing the company in negotiations and settlements.
- Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive guidance to internal teams to mitigate such risks. Collaborate with project managers, construction managers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.
- Develop strategies for the timely and cost-effective resolution of construction disputes, including alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration. Represent the company's interests in negotiations with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other parties involved in construction projects.
- Manage the process of filing and releasing mechanic's liens and other similar instruments to protect the company's rights in construction projects. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and deadlines related to lien filings and releases.
The Construction Litigation Counsel must have:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Bar in Florida or Illinois (whichever is applicable).
- 1 to 6 years of experience in construction litigation, preferably with a focus on project management, construction management, or electrical contracting.
- Strong knowledge of construction law, including contract law, lien law, and construction defect litigation.
