CRAFT ASSISTANT - Electrician Apprentice

With almost 70 years of experience as an independent research, development, and evaluation laboratory for fuels and lubricants, we are well qualified to tackle challenges affecting marine vessels and locomotives, trucks and automobiles, and even hand-held power tools.



Objectives of this Role:

  • Sefely perform electrical work.
  • Procure materials for electrical work.
  • Support building remodeling, maintenance and new construction.
  • Support new and existing test engine set ups.
  • Works to meet completion deadlines while occasionally working overtime.
  • Applicant will be on a rotating call-out schedule to perform emergency repairs on nights and weekends.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and be safely apply it on the job.
  • Follow written and verbal instruction and be able learn to safely operate hand tools as well as larger shop equipment (i.e. drill press, band saws).
  • Assist in repairing electrical malfunctions in a timely manner and troubleshoot electrical issues for buildings and laboratories with their own tools and tools provide by the shop.
  • Assist in conduit bending using manual and electric benders.
  • Learn to do a job take off and assist in ordering the required materials to perform the job.
  • Have good work attendance, good work ethic, basic tools, and be organized.
  • Assist in support work with electrical technicians and engineers to develop the electrical systems for new testing and upgrade of older tests and components
  • Safely follows written and verbal instructions to troubleshoot and repair/replace motors and motor starters, solenoids breakers, fuses, pumps and occasionally support the maintenance technicians.
  • Will be required to be on a rotating call out schedule.


Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years: Assisting to perform electrical work in a residential/commercial setting. Assisting to troubleshoot electrical repairs. Reading blueprints and one-line diagrams.
  • 0-2 years: Assisting to troubleshoot other equipment and motors to verify needed repairs. Assisting to order material as needed.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required
