THE POSITION

The Washington County Law Library is recruiting for a Library Assistant to join our small, effective team. The Library Assistant will help to aid in the law library's mission to provide legal reference services and expand access to justice within our community.
The Library Assistant provides excellent internal and external customer service by providing basic legal reference assistance to a diverse community. This position maintains the welcoming environment of the Law Library with creative displays and ensures new materials are processed and available in a timely manner. The Library Assistant collects and compiles statistics and provides basic business administration tasks, such as bill payments under the direction of the Law Librarian. This position is a member of a small team and will require flexibility to provide coverage, occasionally working alone, and staffing outreach events outside normal business hours.

The ideal candidate is comfortable providing quality customer service to all individuals regardless of legal background. They will be a self-starter who is able to work independently. They are knowledgeable of legal databases and resources and can help others use them. They will seek opportunities to improve processes and be well-organized. They will also possess previous library experience, preferably within a law library.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • One (1) year of experience performing administrative or library support work; six (6) months of the experience must have been in a library;

  4. Conditional Offer: A successful candidate will require to successfully clear a third party background check as a pre-employment condition and a background check as a condition of employment.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
