Job Description

Summary Gains knowledge and experience required for management positions under direction of experienced personnel. Responsible for maintaining inventory accuracy, warehouse organization and cleanliness and overall assistance to the Branch Manager.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Receives training and performs duties in several departments such as paint, closure, warehouse, customer relations, and plant operations.
  • Learns line and staff functions, operations, management viewpoints, and company policies and practices that affect each phase of business.
  • Participates in special projects to develop and implement action plans to maximize bottom line performance, reduce carrying costs and satisfy customers.
  • Learn financial responsibility for branch performance, including budgeting, warehouse, and branch production departments.
  • Learn about Lean manufacturing.
  • Learn about stocking levels and maintaining inventory levels to provide required service levels with the appropriate investment in inventory.
  • Coordinates activities of workers engaged in painting, die cutting, shipping/receiving and other operations as necessary.
  • Maintains production records.
  • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company policies and procedures, Safety, government, and customer requirements.
  • Examine outgoing shipments to ensure they meet customer specifications and on-time delivery. Also monitor freight scheduling and freight quotes for the best routes and prices.
  • Maintain accurate inventory by: confirming procedures are followed for pulling orders and moving product; accurately receiving in products including returned merchandise, transferring material to appropriate storage locations and completing required paperwork.
  • Organize material and lead shipping activities to support efficient and safe operations within the warehouse environment. This includes 1) safely operating a fork lift truck or pallet jack to move, convey, or hoist shipments and put away inbound material and 2) making recommendations on how processes/procedures can be improved.
  • Track performance metrics/KPI s and work with Branch Manager to improve performance and efficiencies.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 10-20 employees in the Houston warehouse. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems and performing job assignments (closure department, paint department, shipping department and any other department they have been trained to work) when needed. Plus continually works to improve Supervisory skills.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and ERP systems.
