Job Description for
Nurse
DEPARTMENT: Student Support Services JOB STATUS: Full Time
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: N/A REPORTS TO: Principal and Lead Nurse
GRADE/LEVEL: P-12 LPN F.L.S.A.: Non Exempt
WORK SCHEDULE: 190 contracted days RN F.L.S.A.: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To identify health needs of pupils and school personnel
- To help school personnel interpret health records and use the information as a tool in the guidance of students
- To maintain updated health records and current immunizations of all students in accordance with guidelines
developed by the State Department of Education
- To screen students for vision, hearing, scoliosis, BMI and refer to proper specialists
- To assist in communicable disease control and reporting
- Delegate duties to other personnel as set forth in regulations established by the AR State Board of Nursing
- To observe and evaluate individual physical, emotional and social health, develop individual health plans
- To provide teachers with up-to-date health information and facts
- To work closely with other health agencies, faculty, parents and students
- To schedule the trainings such as AHA classes for CPR certification of staff
- To administer first aid for sick and injured and responsible for documenting results
- To communicate with parents (written or verbal) concerning their child's health needs - confers with physicians as
needed - provide skilled nursing care and treatments prescribed by doctors in accordance with state law and HSSD
policy
- To purchase first aid supplies and distribute to each campus as needed (Lead Nurse)
- To contact health services for purposes of direct and indirect teaching
- To administer medications according to HSSD policy and strict adherence to guidelines set by the AR State Board of
Nursing
- To perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by employee's supervisor, or the superintendent
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of Bachelor's or Associate's Degree from an accredited educational institution in Nursing. Other requirements

EXPERIENCE
One year of job related experience is required, preferably with children and adolescents. . Other requirements per job

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Hand-eye and mind-eye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing. Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive movements. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects often.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
