Reports to the Sr. Construction Manager - Responsibilities encompass coordinating and expediting remodeling and construction projects involving outside contractors and internal personnel to insure proper workmanship, compliance with plans and specifications, and completion of projects on schedule; supervising support work by personnel; and assisting Project Managers in estimating and value engineering cost of projects. Works closely with Project Managers, Architects, Designers, Engineers and Contractors to eliminate or minimize problems regarding changes, materials, methods, costs, delays and priorities. Assures compliance with regulatory agencies.

Represents MGH concerning various aspects of construction projects. Coordinates a smooth flow of effective communications between the hospital and all parties directly and indirectly involved in the design and construction process, functioning as an agent of the department for clarification of questions and information.

Supervises and coordinates actual construction to insure proper workmanship and compliance with plans and specifications. Solves problems related to any aspect of the construction process to accomplish completion of projects within budget and on schedule. Consults with Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, Designers and Contractors to eliminate problems regarding changes, products, methods, costs, delays, and priorities. Assures project is built to ICRA, ILSM and other agencies requirements.

Assists in evaluating bids and recommendation of the awarding of contracts based on this evaluation.

Interacts with hospital and non-hospital personnel to obtain approval of purchased products, scope of plans and specific scheduling of construction. Confers with internal foremen and general contractors' superintendents to make arrangements for system shutdowns and tie-ins or solve problems concerning procurement and delivery of specified merchandise. Coordinates as-builts procedures and policies. As appropriate, orders not-in-contract items to coincide with planned construction.

Troubleshoots problems arising during construction; recommends to Project Manager alternate course of action, such as the use of different materials or methods, where appropriate

REQUIRED:

* Must have a current Commonwealth of MA Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License.

* 5 years Hospital construction management experience.

* Effectively use organizational and communication skills.

* Must have a clear understanding of mechanical and architectural design and drawing.

* Experience relating to a hospital construction environment including local, state and federal building regulations.

* Experience related to asbestos, IAQ, infection control and life safety.

* Familiarity with project closeout process to include latest sprinkler requirements, fire alarm testing, life safety walkthroughs, permit closeouts and the ultimate Certificate of Occupancy and all as-built documentation.

* May be required to work off-hours or weekends in support of construction projects.
