Middle School Counselor
The Environmental Charter School is seeking a Middle School Counselor for our 2024-25 school year. Successful candidates must be progressive minded, and embody a can-do spirit and work ethic. For best consideration, candidates should have a degree or experience in education, a strong work ethic, and a whatever it takes attitude.

OVERVIEW

School counselors are an integral part of the educational program at ECS. This role collaborates with his/her grade level team, parents/guardians, community members, and the high school principal in the implementation of a counseling program that leads students to achieve success, both academically and socially/emotionally. The Intermediate School Counselor works in a student-centered environment. The school counselor's work aligns with ECS' mission to support all students in the ever-changing 21st century world. Candidates for this position need to be savvy in the ASCA National Model and the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success. This position will require a daily teaching component.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead class guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions related to academic skill building (including, but not limited to: listening skills, organization, study skills, etc.)
  • Develop and lead class guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions related to social/emotional needs (including, but not limited to: social skills, coping, friendships, conflict resolution, changing families, self-awareness, self-esteem, etc.)
  • Be highly present and visible during school hours relentlessly ensuring a positive school environment
  • Participate in working groups of staff and teachers to plan, problem solve, and support one another on an ongoing basis
  • Support school cultural initiatives
  • Communicate regularly with families to develop a supportive home-school relationship

Educational Background and Work Experience
  • Master's degree in school counseling from an accredited institution (preferably CACREP or CORE program) with knowledge of the American School Counselor Association's National Mode
  • PA certification - Secondary School Counselor or Elementary & Secondary School Counselor PK-12
  • Minimum of 3 years counseling or teaching experience preferred
  • Familiarity with charter schools

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum starting salary of $46,763 up to a maximum starting salary of $53,464 dependent upon prior years' counseling experience. ECS offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-, and long-term disability insurance, paid time off, and participation in a generous 403b retirement plan.
