Station Position: Maintenance Mechanic
SUMMARY:

Maintain and repair various types of electrical and steam producing mechanical equipment and their associated auxiliary components.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, maintain, test, inspect and repair generating station equipment such as HRSG, boilers, turbines (gas and steam), pumps, condensers, heat exchangers and inside vessels.
  • Determines causes for major mechanical troubles of equipment and makes or recommends repairs and
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment including PdM activities.
  • Make welds on vessels, valves, turbines, HRSG piping,
  • Fabricates tools and fixtures
  • Replaces packing in pumps and valves, bearings, shaft seals, sleeves, seats and other miscellaneous parts used in plant equipment.
  • Uses gas and/or arc welding equipment to perform mechanical repairs and fabricate plant equipment.
  • Perform basic machining
  • Cleans pipes and performs other plumbing and pipe fitting
  • Sets up rigging for installing/removing
  • Order proper materials for job
  • Complete required records for work
  • Perform routine cleaning of work area.
  • Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety
  • Remove and replace insulation materials on HRSG, heaters, tanks, turbines, lines, valves,
  • Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations and effectively apply them to all work situations. Perform routine and emergency repairs of plant
  • Assist in providing skill enhancement training to other
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with management and other craftsman
SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics to calculate measurements and computations needed for repair and maintenance of power plant
  • Ability to follow, interpret and act on written and verbal job instructions and reports, technical manuals and
  • Ability to perform work from ladders, catwalks and supports at various heights up to 150 feet.
  • Ability to crawl into and perform work in tight or confined
  • Ability to use half and full-face respirators (immediate response) and other protective devices.

Advanced mechanical ability.
  • Basic knowledge of rotating equipment and knowledge of general maintenance activities and procedures.

Ability to use such hand tools as wrenches, screwdrivers, sledge hammers, etc.
Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, cherry picker, crane, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications.
Ability to operate machine shop equipment such as drill presses, lathes and boring mills.
Ability to lift, carry and position such items as large chain falls, slugging wrenches and various equipment (can weigh up to 50 lbs.)
Ability to climb ladders to rig heavy chain falls, use air impact wrenches, heavy equipment and parts in awkward positions, swing various weights of sledge hammers, stoop and bend to reach valves, pull on chain falls and come-a-longs.
Ability to use measuring devices such as micrometers.
Ability to operate oxygen and acetylene torches.
Ability to certify as a pressure welder.
Knowledge of handling and disposal of waste material generated by maintenance activities.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

Ten (10) years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience in the repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of related power plant or machine shop equipment including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnostics.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Out-of-doors environment at generating plant work locations includes:
Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 150 feet.
Work in all temperatures and climatic conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment.
Emergency situations will require the use of a respirator.
Established facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted at any time.
Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons.
Steel toe footwear must be worn.
Performance of duties requires response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week and working irregular shifts.

  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; valid driver's license is
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant
