Job Description:

Claims Senior Claim Specialist, Property and Inland Marine

Crum & Forster (part of Fairfax Financial Holdings group of companies) founded in 1896, is a national Property and Casualty insurance group providing a broad range of standard and specialty commercial insurance products. We are currently seeking a Senior Claim Specialist to manage claims within the Property Division. The Senior Claim Specialist will be responsible for outcomes on all claims within their purview. We are looking for a self-starter who enjoys being a key part of a dynamic claims team. The Senior Claims Specialist will manage an assigned pending of various types of property and inland marine claims. These claims include, but arent limited to Motor Truck Cargo, Contractors Equipment, Builders Risk, and Quota Share Property Claims. The candidate for this position will work closely with the property claims team as well as the property and inland marine underwriting team and will operate under appropriate levels of supervision and within established authority. The position will report directly to the Senior VP of Property and Inland Marine claims and is a remote position.

What you will do for C&F:

  • Responsible for handling a wide variety of first and third party claims including, but not limited to, Inland Marine and Commercial Property claims in various jurisdictions.
  • Analyze claims, verify applicability of coverages, and evaluate exposure on a variety of claims in various jurisdictions.
  • Communicate with claimants and principals, evaluate documentation, understand coverage, assess exposure, set reserves, and issue payments.
  • Determine the appropriate method and extent of investigation for each claim.
  • Review underwriting files, policies and other legal contracts.
  • Communicate promptly to interested parties.
  • Draft appropriate position letters to claimants and/or insureds, when necessary.
  • Manage litigated claims toward a prompt and reasonable resolution.
  • Appropriately manage, direct and budget outside vendors, including independent adjusters, counsel and consultants.
  • Consult with management at all levels of the claims department to strategize and make recommendations where assistance and consultation is needed on claims exceeding assigned authority.
  • Prepare reports, document claim files, review and manage outstanding files, as assigned, for adequacy and timeliness of investigation, evaluation and reserving, and maintain a timely diary for each assigned claim.
  • Assess recovery potential and collaborate with outside recovery firms to coordinate recovery and or salvage.
  • Provide superior customer service to policyholders and external vendors and agents during entirety of the claims handling process.
  • Complete special projects and tasks, as assigned, and meet deadlines

What you will bring to C&F

  • Minimum of five years experience handling property and/or inland marine claims.
  • College degree and a designation and/or insurance related courses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with claimants, insureds, underwriters, attorneys, consultants, and all levels of management are essential.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other departments.
  • Solid time management skills to prioritize and manage workload and time sensitive issues regarding coverage, liability, damage evaluations, and timely resolutions.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to details and ability to review and interpret complex documents.
  • Obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and claims handling software.
  • Occasional travel is required.

Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $53,200.00 to a maximum of $121,000.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employees contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
